DESCRIPTION:The 17th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) will be hosted by Mongolia in its capital\, Ulaanbaatar\, from August 17 to 28\, 2026. \nUNCCD announcement \nThis historic global event will bring together delegates from 197 Parties\, heads of state\, ministers\, representatives of international organizations\, scientific communities\, civil society\, and the private sector to find solutions to the interrelated challenges of desertification\, land degradation\, and drought. \nCOP17 will be held in the context of the United Nations International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists (IYRP 2026)\, providing a crucial global opportunity to highlight sustainable rangeland management and the needs of more than one billion people who depend directly on these vital ecosystems for their livelihoods. \nDuring the two-week conference\, participants will take part in a high-level segment featuring ministerial dialogues\, as well as multi-stakeholder forums and thematic discussions on science-policy integration\, innovation\, solutions\, technology\, and finance. The event is expected to foster effective collaboration and action across sectors\, advancing the goals of sustainable land management\, ecosystem and land restoration\, and the implementation of Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN) targets. \nTo build momentum for COP17 and raise awareness among the public and young people\, Mongolia has already launched a series of national initiatives. One of the key upcoming events is the national forum “Youth4Land\,” scheduled for June 16-17\, 2025\, in the city of Mandalgovi\, Dundgovi Province\, on the occasion of Desertification and Drought Day. This forum will bring together more than 100 young herders\, researchers\, and policymakers to jointly develop sustainable land solutions based on traditional knowledge and scientific evidence. SUMMARY:United Nations Water Conference
DESCRIPTION:Background \nThe high-level 2026 United Nations Water Conference to Accelerate the Implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 6: Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all will be held in the United Arab Emirates from 2–4 December 2026\, co-hosted by Senegal and the United Arab Emirates. \nThe Conference will consider challenges to achieving SDG 6 as well as opportunities and innovative ways to support its implementation and accelerate progress. Participants will exchange views\, develop initiatives\, and identify actions to advance SDG 6\, including cooperation at all relevant levels to enhance means of implementation and partnerships. \nThe Conference will also highlight gender perspectives and empowerment of women and girls in ensuring safe drinking water and sanitation for all. \nThe Conference will result in a summary of the proceedings of the Conference\, to be prepared by the Presidents of the Conference\, as its outcome document. The summary will also serve as an input to the UN High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF). \nAdditionally\, the Conference will offer an opportunity to share best practices in accelerating SDG implementation—including those included in the Water Action Agenda—and will invite Member States and other stakeholders to announce voluntary commitments in support of the Conference objectives. Members States decided that the 2026 Conference should build on the discussions held during the UN 2023 Water Conference. \nThe 2026 UN Water Conference will be comprised of plenary sessions and six interactive dialogues (A/RES/78/327). The Conference secretariat\, UN-DESA\, will prepare a background note on potential themes of the interactive dialogues\, based on the inputs of Member States\, the UN system\, and a wide range of other stakeholders. DESCRIPTION:WINHEC AGM 2027: Save the Date\nThe World Indigenous Nations Higher Education Consortium (WINHEC) was established in August 2002 at the World Indigenous Peoples Conference on Education (WIPCE) in Alberta\, Canada. WINHEC’s aim is to bring professionals together to achieve common goals through higher education. Members come from many different countries and a variety of diverse areas such as university departments\, research organizations and government agencies. \nEach year WINHEC brings together their members in different countries to celebrate the uniqueness of being Indigenous\, nurturing relationships and furthering the purpose of WINHEC.
