SUMMARY:Pathway 2 Writing Workshops - Indigenous Values in Research: "Venue\, Action\, Language and Song" - Meeting #2
DESCRIPTION:The title of this workshop contains a quote from Elders Reg and Rose Crowshoe of the Piikani Nation\, who teach about what makes us real as Indigenous Peoples\, and how we describe that process\, “venue\, action\, language and song”. (see YouTube Video: https://youtu.be/HDOrB6RvdlU?si=YmfX4k1IusnjtWAf  retrieved online May 8\, 2026). This Writing Workshop Series is an opportunity to think about how to shift the focus from compliance with funder/institutional constructs (which sometimes carry a colonial unconscious bias or structural constraints) about what outputs\, measures and indicators of a large research project\, to recentering Ărramăt Project on Indigenous processes and honouring those outcomes\, values and measures. \nProposed Participants:\nCo-Principal Investigators\, Pathway Co-Leads and Advisory Circle Members. \n  \nA three (3) hour synchronous online meeting. This meeting will be held in two parts\, following our Ărramăt Project Advisory Circle format of two separate meetings on the same day to accommodate participants from different timezones.

SUMMARY:
DESCRIPTION:Under the theme of Leading Transformation Together\, the fourth edition of the World Biodiversity Forum WBF will take place from Sunday\, 14 June to Friday\, 19 June 2026 in Davos\, Switzerland. \nBending the curve of biodiversity loss\, and addressing the interconnected planetary crises that negatively impact planetary health and social justice requires the development of actionable solutions based on the best available knowledge\, jointly across sectors and generations. It also requires addressing the root causes of these crises\, current social and cultural pattern and practices\, by co-developing biodiversity-positive futures\, and creating structures and practices that are just and equitable. Also\, the operationalization of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework urgently needs strong support beyond the governmental structures. The World Biodiversity Forum 2026 contributes to these developments by convening the community to build broad and strong leadership and networks for transformation\, bringing science\, arts\, society\, and businesses together\, across generations. WBF2026 builds on the valuable experience from previous World Biodiversity Forums (read more). \nLink: https://worldbiodiversityforum.org/

SUMMARY:17th session of the Convention’s Conference of the Parties (COP17)
DESCRIPTION:The 17th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) will be hosted by Mongolia in its capital\, Ulaanbaatar\, from August 17 to 28\, 2026. \nUNCCD announcement \nThis historic global event will bring together delegates from 197 Parties\, heads of state\, ministers\, representatives of international organizations\, scientific communities\, civil society\, and the private sector to find solutions to the interrelated challenges of desertification\, land degradation\, and drought. \nCOP17 will be held in the context of the United Nations International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists (IYRP 2026)\, providing a crucial global opportunity to highlight sustainable rangeland management and the needs of more than one billion people who depend directly on these vital ecosystems for their livelihoods. \nDuring the two-week conference\, participants will take part in a high-level segment featuring ministerial dialogues\, as well as multi-stakeholder forums and thematic discussions on science-policy integration\, innovation\, solutions\, technology\, and finance. The event is expected to foster effective collaboration and action across sectors\, advancing the goals of sustainable land management\, ecosystem and land restoration\, and the implementation of Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN) targets. \nTo build momentum for COP17 and raise awareness among the public and young people\, Mongolia has already launched a series of national initiatives. One of the key upcoming events is the national forum “Youth4Land\,” scheduled for June 16-17\, 2025\, in the city of Mandalgovi\, Dundgovi Province\, on the occasion of Desertification and Drought Day. This forum will bring together more than 100 young herders\, researchers\, and policymakers to jointly develop sustainable land solutions based on traditional knowledge and scientific evidence. This national initiative is part of the country’s efforts to implement the outcomes of previous UNCCD COPs and promote inclusive participation. \nMongolia’s ambitious development and environmental agenda\, which includes the national “Billions of Trees” movement\, the “White Gold” community-based rural development initiative\, and the “Food Revolution” agricultural and soil initiative\, positions the country as a model for regional and global action. \nHosting COP17 will provide a historic opportunity to take international cooperation on land\, climate\, and biodiversity to the next level. \nThis crucial conference will mark a significant step forward in uniting the world around solutions to the challenges of land degradation and climate change\, thereby consolidating Mongolia’s contribution to building a sustainable and resilient future for all. \nFor more information\, please contact: \nUNCCD Press Office:\npress@unccd.int\nhttps://www.unccd.int/\n@unccd \nMinistry of Environment and Climate Change of Mongolia: https://www.mecc.gov.mn

SUMMARY:Native American and Indigenous Studies Association (NAISA) Conference
DESCRIPTION:NAISA 2026  –  NAISA WALLMAPU\nMemories\, Territories and Movements\nJuly 22\, 23\, and 24\, 2026\nTemuko\, Wallmapu\nInvitation to the peoples and nations of the world to a space of listening\, reflection and collective action \nFor the first time\, our annual gathering will take place in Abya Yala\, home to more than 800 Native peoples. Even in the twenty-first century\, the extractivism and colonial settlements that started with the invasions of the sixteenth century continue to grow in this vast territory. These historical forces have shaped complex territorial\, environmental\, global and local imbrications of appropriation and dispossession\, while resistance and re-existence persist. This process has transformed the environmental and climate conditions as well as the ways of life of Indigenous Peoples. In this context\, and in solidarity with Black and other allied communities\, Indigenous Peoples struggle for land recovery and care\, for environmental\, racial\, and gender justice\, and look to incorporate the diverse bodies\, identities\, languages\, and cultures that sustain peoples and societies. In sum\, it is a struggle for the continuity of life. \nNAISA will take place in Temuco\, a city situated in an ancestral territory of Abya Yala in which Mapuche People have lived for centuries. This ancestral territory extends over what hegemonically is represented as southern and central Chile and Argentina\, but which\, from the perspective of Mapuche People\, is called Wallmapu. Here\, the relationship to the land\, the water\, the tangible and non-tangible environment has been  foundational for the Mapuche. Indeed\, Mapuche means\, “People of  the Earth”–Mapu: land\, earth\, territory\, space\, universe; and Che: person\, people. Memories and territories remain in tension and dispute\, taking shape through multiple agencies and movements whose processes of decolonization converge in shared struggles and diverge in their particularities. In this 17th meeting of NAISA\, we will have the opportunity to see\, hear\, and feel these resonances together. All are warmly invited.  Pewayiñ Wallmapu Püle.
