DESCRIPTION:Foundational Dialogue on Indigenous Food Sovereignty: Decolonizing the Narrative of Indigenous Food Systems\n \n The webinar\, inspired by the spirit of a Wise Circle\, will explore IFS as a decolonizing framework and as a pathway toward self-determined food systems. Ines Sebai will present her research findings from a collaborative project developed and refined together with Treena Dolomier\, Chris Furgal\, Alejandro Argumedo. This will ground the conversation in theoretical and community-based perspectives. \nInes will then be joined in dialogue by Chris Furgal\, an environmental health scholar working with Arctic Indigenous Peoples\, and Treena Delormier\, a leading researcher in Indigenous nutrition and health. SUMMARY:UN 2026 Water Conference\, United Arab Emirates\, 2-4 December 2026- Call for Special Accreditation
DESCRIPTION:The 2026 United Nations Water Conference\, co-hosted by the United Arab Emirates and Senegal\, will convene in the UAE from 2-4 December 2026. \nSpecial accreditation for Non-governmental Organizations and other Stakeholders (including Indigenous Peoples) is now open until 21 March 2025. \nBackground \nThe high-level 2026 United Nations Water Conference to Accelerate the Implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 6: Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all will be held in the United Arab Emirates from 2–4 December 2026\, co-hosted by Senegal and the United Arab Emirates. \nThe Conference will consider challenges to achieving SDG 6 as well as opportunities and innovative ways to support its implementation and accelerate progress. Participants will exchange views\, develop initiatives\, and identify actions to advance SDG 6\, including cooperation at all relevant levels to enhance means of implementation and partnerships. \nThe Conference will also highlight gender perspectives and empowerment of women and girls in ensuring safe drinking water and sanitation for all. \nThe Conference will result in a summary of the proceedings of the Conference\, to be prepared by the Presidents of the Conference\, as its outcome document. The summary will also serve as an input to the UN High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF). \nAdditionally\, the Conference will offer an opportunity to share best practices in accelerating SDG implementation—including those included in the Water Action Agenda—and will invite Member States and other stakeholders to announce voluntary commitments in support of the Conference objectives. Members States decided that the 2026 Conference should build on the discussions held during the UN 2023 Water Conference. \nThe 2026 UN Water Conference will be comprised of plenary sessions and six interactive dialogues (A/RES/78/327). The Conference secretariat\, UN-DESA\, will prepare a background note on potential themes of the interactive dialogues\, based on the inputs of Member States\, the UN system\, and a wide range of other stakeholders. The themes of the interactive dialogues will be adopted by the UN General Assembly at a one-day meeting to be convened by the President of the General Assembly on 9 July 2025.\nMore information about the UN 2026 Water Conference can be found here. \nWhich stakeholders can participate in the 2026 UN Water Conference? \nParticipation of representatives from non-governmental organizations\, major groups and other relevant stakeholders at the 2026 UN Water Conference is guided by A/RES/78/327. \nOrganizations that fall under the following categories will be able to request registration to attend the 2026 UN Water Conference and its preparatory meeting. \n\nNon-governmental organizations and major groups identified in Agenda 21 and other stakeholders in consultative status with ECOSOC. You can check if your organization has consultative status with ECOSOC here\nOrganizations that were accredited to previous United Nations’ conferences as per A/RES/78/327\n\nParticipation of stakeholders including Indigenous Peoples \nAccording to resolution A/RES/78/327\, 4 (g) the Conference shall\, “Involve all relevant stakeholders\, bringing together Governments\, the United Nations system\, intergovernmental organizations\, international financial institutions\, other interested international bodies\, non-governmental organizations\, civil society organizations\, academic institutions\, the scientific community\,\nIndigenous Peoples and local communities\, the private sector\, philanthropic organizations and other actors to assess challenges and opportunities relating to\, as well as support further action to accelerate the implementation of\, Sustainable Development Goal 6 and the water-related goals and targets of the 2030 Agenda”. \nParagraph 22 invites\, “Invites other relevant stakeholders\, including organizations and bodies of the United Nations\,  intergovernmental organizations\, international financial institutions\, other interested international bodies and non-governmental organizations\, civil society organizations\, academic institutions\, the scientific community\, Indigenous Peoples and local  communities\, persons with disabilities\, the private sector and philanthropic organizations\, whose work is relevant to the Conference\, accredited in accordance with the provisions set forth in annex II to the present resolution\, to participate as observers in the Conference and its preparatory meeting”. \nRule 65 at Annex III\, provides that\, “Non-governmental organizations accredited to participate in the Conference may designate representatives to attend public meetings of the Conference and the Main Committee as observers”. Further\, Paragraph 23.3 of Agenda 21 provides that “Any policies\, definitions or rules affecting access to and participation by non-governmental organizations in the work of United Nations institutions or agencies associated with the implementation of Agenda 21 must apply equally to all major groups”. Agenda 21 defines “major groups as comprising women\, children and youth\, Indigenous People\, non-governmental organizations\, local authorities\, workers and their trade unions\, business and industry\, the scientific and technological community and farmers. Therefore\, based on Agenda 21\, rule 65 shall apply equally to non-governmental organizations and other major groups”. \nSpecial Accreditation Process for Stakeholders including Indigenous Peoples \nAs guided by resolution A/RES/78/327 other relevant non-governmental organizations\, including civil society organizations\, academic institutions\, the scientific community\, the private sector and philanthropic organizations whose work is relevant to the Conference and are not in consultative status with ECOSOC or accredited to the previous United Nations Conferences mentioned above\, must receive special accreditation in order to participate in the Conference and the preparatory meeting as observers. \nInterested organizations can apply by 21 March 2025 using this link. \nThis round of special accreditation will be conducted on the Civil Society Platform\, one of the latest initiatives from the UN Department of Global Communications (DGC) designed to streamline engagement processes for civil society organizations. \nIf your organization does not yet have an account\, follow the user guides below to get started: \n\nQuick Start on the Civil Society Platform\nAccount Creation Guide and FAQs  \nRequest Accreditation Guide \n\nApplications will be reviewed on the basis of their background and involvement in the implementation and follow up of SDG 6. DESCRIPTION:1 Congresso Latioamericano sobre una Sola Salud (I CLAUS) – 1st Latin American Congress on One Health (I LACOH) \nTheme: “Towards a safe\, sustainable\, and healthy future in the Americas” \nThe I CLAUS is aimed at public officials from the health\, agriculture\, production\, environment\, and energy and mining sectors; researchers; professionals; students; and private sector representatives. The goal is to strengthen local capacities in the Americas. It will also seek to consolidate academic and technical ties among participating countries\, developing the One Health in the Americas network. \nTherefore\, I CLAUS aims to contribute to the generation of public and private policies aimed at the sustainable development of the region\, promoting strategies and new lines of work and strengthening alliances with local and international organizations to develop solutions with a One Health approach to the Latin American agenda toward a safe\, sustainable\, and healthy future in the Americas\, with an emphasis on children’s health. \nAbstract submission deadline: October 31\, 2025 \n\nRenato Azevedo Matias Silvano is organizing a session on Ecosystem Health and Food Security on December 3rd at the 1st Latin American Congress on One Health in Lima\, Peru\, and is asking if two Ărramăt colleagues\, preferably from different countries\, would be interested in participating in this table and to give a brief talk. DESCRIPTION:The 2025 UN Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC COP 30) will convene in November 2025 in Belém\, Brazil. It will include the 30th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 30)\, the 20th meeting of the COP serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP 20)\, and the seventh meeting of the COP serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Paris Agreement (CMA 7)\, as well as the 63rd sessions of the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA 63) and the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI 63) will also meet. \nIn an informal briefing on 5 March 2025\, COP 30 President-designate André Aranha Corrêa do Lago shared updates on Brazil’s preparations and priorities for the Conference. He highlighted the defense of multilateralism and respect for science among the COP 30 Presidency’s key priorities. \nCorrêa do Lago called for: refocusing efforts on action and implementation by translating words into transformative actions on the ground; and aligning efforts within and outside the UNFCCC with the Paris Agreement’s long-term goals on temperature\, resilience and financial floors. This\, he said\, includes the delivery of ambitious nationally determined contributions (NDCs) aligned with 1.5°C\, which COP 30 is expected to take stock of to stimulate reflection on bottlenecks hampering implementation. \nIn a letter to parties dated 10 March 2025\, the President-designate further detailed Brazil’s vision for the COP. DESCRIPTION:We invite you to the inaugural Economic Futures Summit—a first-of-its-kind\, Indigenous-led gathering to galvanize sustainability solutions and create new pathways for evolving the economy and confronting the climate and nature crises.\n\n\nWe need to create solutions for a livable climate\, resilient communities\, sustainable economies and a thriving planet. Indigenous People know many of these solutions and can be partners in innovating many more. \nBut as conservation and climate finance options rapidly evolve and billions of dollars are invested in seeking solutions\, Indigenous People are seldom engaged. \nWhy? \nMany Indigenous communities are not aware of the full range of finance opportunities that exist and how to access them. Many investors are not connected to Indigenous communities’ ideas and solutions. DESCRIPTION:From October 9 – 15 this year\, IUCN Members\, Commissions and partners will gather in Abu Dhabi\, United Arab Emirates\, for the IUCN World Conservation Congress 2025 (WCC) to address global environmental challenges and discuss conservation priorities for the next decade. \nAs Canada’s State member representative to IUCN\, Parks Canada is coordinating the federal government’s participation in Congress and a Canada Pavilion to showcase Canadian leadership\, collaborative work and priorities in nature conservation. \nThis pavilion will serve as a hub of innovation\, collaboration and knowledge sharing\, helping people connect on conservation needs\, honouring and learning from Indigenous stewards\, and inspiring the next generation of environmental leaders.  \nWe invite Canadian organisations planning on attending the congress to submit proposals for programming and/or to use the space for networking at Congress.  \nWe hope to see a strong and diverse Canadian presence at the Congress. While IUCN has shared a Provisional Congress Agenda\, the detailed schedule is currently under development. With many details about the Congress still to come\, flexibility and collaboration over the coming months will be important. Parks Canada is looking forward to collaborating with Canadian attendees over the next few months on this significant conservation gathering. \nProposal review and selection will be conducted by Canada’s WCC Intergovernmental Working Group.

The IUNS-ICN are attended by 3-4000 participants from all over the world. DESCRIPTION:SING Canada will forgo hosting a summer workshop in 2025 and instead will offer support to a new branch of the SING Global family developing in Sámi territories across Sweden. \nFrom August 12th to 16th\, 2025\, we will collaboratively host a one-week workshop in the Lule Sámi area of the Sámi territories known as Sábme or “Sápmi” (located within Sweden).  The workshop will be based not only on the SING Canada model but also on land-based learning approaches applied locally by Sámi reindeer herders and land users.  The workshop will provide both hands-on\, place-based education in Sámi cultural practices\, as well as practical and technical skill-building in environmental genomics approaches.  The workshop will be supplemented by learning sessions introducing a critical and ethical framework for considering Indigenous science and educational approaches. \nYoung Indigenous scientists will be joined by members of the Gällivare forest Sámi reindeer herding community\, local Sami researchers and the SING Canada faculty\, in this newly designed one-week intensive workshop. Our program is still under development\, and our partners will organize applications through Uppsala University. Registration will open in the new year. We will prioritize Sámi applicants in Sweden and from across Sámi territories\, but pending available funding\, may accept–in the interest of continuing to build our global Indigenous genomics network–a participant or two from another part of the world.

In this session\, we’ll walk through the full process of organizing and hosting webinars that are thoughtful\, inclusive\, and smooth-running. \nPlease note: This will be based on Zoom meetings specifically. However\, you can apply these tips to other platforms.  \nJoin Ărramăt staff Abby D’ Souza and Carrie Oloriz to share tips on scheduling\, inviting speakers\, respecting FPIC\, chairing a meeting and what to watch for during live events. We’ll also cover some key features and technical aspects of the Zoom platform\, and best practices for interpretation and using AI tools for things like transcription and accessibility. Whether you’re brand new to webinars or just want to refine your approach\, this session will offer useful tools\, reminders\, and templates to make your next event a success. \nAbby D’Souza is the Communication Coordinator for the Ărramăt Project. A settler located in Treaty 6 Territory and the Traditional Homeland of the Métis\, she has been engaged with the project since its proposal phase. Abby holds a Master’s degree in Resource Economics and Environmental Sociology\, with a focus on Risk and Community Resilience. She has worked and learned from local communities in the Mekong River\, where she conducted research on the impact of hydroelectric development livelihood diversifications. She is passionate about the Ărramăt Project and has thoroughly enjoyed working alongside the dedicated team. \nCarrie Oloriz is honoured to be part of the research and project management team at Ărramăt. She has worked as an ecologist and Indigenous ally for almost 30 years\, dedicating her career to bridging knowledge systems\, participatory methods and collaboration. Carrie has managed major projects\, designed and implemented numerous field programs and has extensive experience conducting interviews\, facilitating meetings and supporting training and capacity development initiatives. Carrie’s academic research focused on the role of Indigenous knowledge and local management practices in decision-making about the sustainability of culturally significant fish and fishing livelihoods in the Lower Fraser River (Canada) and the Lower Mekong River (Thailand and Laos). She has the privilege of living and working in Coast Salish territory.

Whether the relationships are with land\, water\, ice\, wildlife\, or humans\, their strength and diversity are critical in building collective resilience. \nAs Canada’s national conference for coastal zone management\, we invite everyone who works within coastal zones to come and connect to share our passion for advancing knowledge building\, best practices\, and social and policy awareness. Drawing engineers\, scientists\, youth\, artists\, planners\, climate change practitioners\, community leaders\, and more – this conference looks to push coastal zone management to new heights by bringing together different actors and knowledge holders to facilitate a better understanding of different pressures and opportunities as well as enable more impactful collaborations.

DESCRIPTION:The Sami Parliament is hosting Máistu – Sami food conference on May 14 in Alta\, with lots of exciting things on the menu. There will also be a pre-event on May 13\, and a post-event on May 15. You can find the program a little further down the page. \nMáistu means taste in Sami. But Sami food is more than just ingredients and taste. It carries stories – stories about the proud people of Sápmi. We will also hear stories from other indigenous peoples in the Arctic and we will meet to shine a spotlight on indigenous food systems. These food systems are deeply rooted in tradition and sustainability\, and they play a crucial role in preserving culture and identity. DESCRIPTION:Dear Arramat members\,\n\nOn behalf of T6 pathway co-leads (Prasert and Prateep)\, we would like to let you know about our upcoming Indigenous Youth Camp 2025 in northern Thailand\, happening from April 27 – May 2\, 2025 (Please take a look at the attached tentative program prepared together with our community partners).\n\nThe camp aims to bring together Indigenous youths to learn\, engage\, and share experiences that are empowering for future Indigenous leaders and the preservation of cultures and traditions of Indigenous peoples around the world.\n\nWe are extending an invitation for you to send a youth representative to the camp to enhance the richness of the teachings and learning. As part of T6 support\, we commit to cover all in-country-related expenses (local transportation\, accommodation\, and feeding). All we ask is for you to support the return ticket of your youth member/representative to come attend this wonderful learning opportunity.
